Why Rapid Alpha exists
Matthew founded Rapid Alpha after seeing the same pattern across years of working with technology companies. The ones that got through a big growth step weren't just better advised. They had built the ability to run complex, high-stakes projects themselves.
Most companies from $25M to $150M can't afford a full corporate development team or IP department yet. Rapid Alpha gives them that capability now, in a form they won't outgrow but will grow into.
As a growth and innovation advisor, Matthew has worked with companies from early-stage startups to Boeing, BHP and Stanley Black & Decker, and with investors including Boutique Venture Partners. His clients include three exits — GET Trakka/milTrakka, Optika Solutions (acquired by Perenti), and XTEND.me — and startups that have gone on to raise capital, including a $20M Series A.
Matthew Wahlrab, Founder and CEO
Matthew started in intellectual property and business development, running BD and portfolio development at the Invention Science Fund at Intellectual Ventures — supporting patent sales, spinout efforts, and strategic partnerships with emerging startups commercializing IV's patented technology.
From there he built the IP program at Element3, supported more than 4,000 patents across 68 technology domains at Adeia, and carried a technology from customer interviews through to a signed term sheet. Clients along the way have included Boeing, BHP and Stanley Black & Decker, with exits at GET Trakka/milTrakka, Optika Solutions (acquired by Perenti) and XTEND.me.
What he kept seeing: growth plans that named a number but never a path to it — the strategy sat in a deck, and the muscle to execute it never got built in-house. Rapid Alpha and EVOS exist to fix that: give a growing company the same capability a department would provide, in a form it grows into rather than out of.
How we work with you
As your advisors
For companies that want a clear strategy, we advise the leadership team on where growth will come from and how to get there.
As your corporate development and IP team
For companies with good people but no full department, we do the behind-the-scenes work a corporate development team and IP department would do. Your leaders stay focused on moving projects forward, and they get hands-on experience running larger business units, with the data in their hands.
Priced by the decision, not the hour
We agree on the scope and price up front, and the people who do the analysis are the people you work with. We limit how many clients we take on, so we'll always tell you when we can start.
What we believe
A claim without a source is not a claim.
Mapping a market completely is a way of avoiding the decision.
